Mercedes-Benz's Acentrik wins Isle of Man Innovation Challenge

Mercedes-Benz has developed Acentrik, a new data exchange platform that has recently won the 2024 Isle of Man Innovation Challenge. Acentrik was designed to address long-standing data issues on the Isle of Man and globally, earning it the top accolade at the Innovation Challenge.

This platform aims to facilitate cross-border data sharing and processing between government and private organisations, unlocking new innovations while addressing global data challenges. Acentrik ensures the secure sharing and utilisation of vast amounts of data across borders, maintaining data privacy and regulatory compliance. Mercedes-Benz is looking to exploit the growing demand for such technology in both the Isle of Man and the UK markets specifically.

Cheryl Kwek, Marketing and Communications Manager at Mercedes-Benz Singapore, said, "Acentrik provides opportunities for businesses and governments to leverage secure data sharing and monetisation, opening the door to various innovations." The company highlights how this technology could be beneficial to many sectors, including gaming, government, financial institutions, and data centres.

Acentrik distinguishes itself with its privacy-preserving features for data sharing, not storing or accessing the data, unlike other data platforms. Mercedes-Benz's approach to 'compute to data' ensures complete data privacy. Initially developed in 2020 to enable internal data sharing across various geographical regions, Mercedes-Benz tackled privacy challenges with this innovation. Since then, the technology has scaled for use in both private and public sectors.

The platform has already established partnerships with Digital Isle of Man on data foundation initiatives and with the responsible gaming sector. These collaborations allow gaming companies to monetise their data while preserving privacy. The Isle of Man's regulators benefit as well, gaining insights to develop research-driven gaming legislation. Acentrik's domain-agnostic solution demonstrates its flexibility and applicability across various industries.

The Isle of Man Innovation Challenge provided Acentrik with access to industry experts and government officials, which was instrumental in scaling the product. This initiative's success underscores the importance of comprehensive data solutions that prioritise privacy and regulatory compliance while facilitating innovation and cross-border collaboration.
