Targa Telematics & Volvo link vehicle data for fleet efficiency

Yesterday

Targa Telematics has entered into a partnership with Volvo Cars to integrate vehicle data directly into its mobility platform, aiming to improve fleet management services across Europe.

The agreement will enable Targa Telematics to access and utilise real-time data streams from a wide range of Volvo vehicles, streamlining the process for fleet managers looking to optimise operations. The integration eliminates the need for aftermarket installations, providing seamless delivery of key vehicle insights such as mileage, fuel consumption, electric vehicle data, GPS location, and the ability to execute remote commands like locking and unlocking the vehicle.

Data management

The partnership is positioned to provide fleet managers with a set of structured information delivered through detailed reports, supporting effective decision-making for fleet optimisation. The platform will be compliant with privacy and safety regulations, with the data chosen according to the needs of each client.

"The collaborations we have with car manufacturers aim to provide new mobility services developed using data flows from vehicles equipped with OEM devices, thus reducing the operational impacts related to aftermarket installations", commented Alberto Falcione, Vice President Sales of Targa Telematics. "The goal is to simplify and normalize data flows, a highly complex process, and make them available through Targa Telematics' digital platforms. This data is selected based on the real needs of the customer, ensuring efficiency and economic sustainability. This enables the creation of fast, optimized and high-performance solutions, with reduced deployment times and a significant improvement in operational processes, both for customers and for the services offered by Targa Telematics".

The direct integration relates to a broad range of Volvo models, including all passenger car models from 2015 onwards, and is available in over 30 European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Commercial fleet focus

Volvo Cars sees the collaboration as an opportunity to extend its data services to the commercial fleet sector, aiming to facilitate smarter business decisions and operational improvements. Connected vehicles are expected to provide immediate access to meaningful data that helps companies manage their fleets more effectively.

"Connected vehicles offer a unique opportunity to fundamentally reshape the way fleets are managed," said Dimitrios Merkouris, Commercial Manager at Volvo Cars. "Our collaboration with Targa Telematics allows us to bring Volvo's hallmark quality, innovation, and values to the commercial fleet sector. We provide immediate access to meaningful data that supports smarter decision-making, improves operational efficiency, and promotes a more personal, sustainable, and safe mobility".

Targa Telematics brings over a decade's experience in the leasing, rental, and insurance sectors, which, according to the company, enables raw data to be converted into decision-supporting information. This capability is described as a competitive advantage for both Targa Telematics and its clients.

Digital services in mobility

The collaboration is expected to accelerate the deployment of digital services within the mobility sector by facilitating the introduction of new tools and analytics for vehicle operators. With the integration of directly sourced OEM data, Targa Telematics seeks to offer tailored digital services to fleet operators, supporting economic and operational sustainability.

The service's availability in most European markets is designed to benefit a diverse range of fleet operators, from leasing and rental companies to large corporate fleets, with the aim of reducing the complexities typically associated with managing mixed-brand vehicle portfolios. Through this data management agreement, Targa Telematics and Volvo Cars intend to support the transition towards more connected, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions.
