Iron Mountain to digitise McLaren archives for global fan access
Iron Mountain has entered into an official partnership with the McLaren Formula 1 Team to support the team's digital heritage transformation and information management requirements.
Under the new partnership, Iron Mountain will utilise its AI-enabled digital platform to assist McLaren Racing in activating its historical archives. The initiative involves the digitisation and preservation of assets including blueprints, film, and photography from McLaren's history in motorsport. This work is intended to create intelligent and dynamic content from the archives.
According to the announcement, the transformation of McLaren's archives will enable the team to connect with its global fanbase and commercial partners by sharing key moments and stories from its past. The company said the partnership would bring McLaren's history to life and allow new content to be produced from its archive material.
Archive digitisation
Iron Mountain's involvement will focus on preserving, digitising, and unlocking the value of McLaren Racing's historical assets. The company's digital solutions are expected to enable access and engagement with these materials for fans and stakeholders around the world.
Nick Martin, Co-Chief Commercial Officer, McLaren Racing, said: "Our fans are at the centre of what we do, and we are passionate about sharing our storied past with them. With the integration of Iron Mountain, we will be able to bring to life more of the team's rich history for our fans and partners as we look to shine a light on the McLaren Racing brand."
Iron Mountain will also support McLaren Racing by managing the secure and efficient end-of-life process for the team's IT assets, drawing on its expertise in information management for both physical and digital environments.
Brand visibility
The partnership will debut at the 2025 United States Grand Prix, where Iron Mountain branding will be visible on both McLaren Formula 1 Team race cars. The branding will continue to appear in various locations throughout the 2025 Formula 1 season and will remain a feature in subsequent seasons.
Greg McIntosh, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, Iron Mountain, said: "We are proud to partner with the McLaren Formula 1 Team, which embodies the spirit of innovation and high performance at Iron Mountain.
