Allegro is expanding its warehouse network in Clevedon and Portishead, adding 25,000 sq ft of space in North Somerset.

The fulfilment and logistics company is adding a warehouse at its existing Clevedon operation and has acquired a new site in Portishead. The extra space will help it serve existing customers and take on larger eCommerce brands from across the UK.

Based in North Somerset, Allegro provides eCommerce fulfilment, shipping and logistics services to businesses nationwide. Its work includes moving stock into warehouses, pick and pack, dispatch and returns, with systems linked to customers' eCommerce platforms.

The enlarged footprint comes as demand for outsourced fulfilment grows among online retailers seeking more storage and distribution support. The new capacity is intended to help Allegro manage higher order volumes and larger client operations.

Regional expansion

The Clevedon addition builds on an established local base, while the Portishead site gives the business a second location in North Somerset. Together, the two sites strengthen Allegro's presence in an area it sees as central to its development.

The business has also recently refreshed its brand as it looks to raise its national profile among eCommerce companies. The warehouse investment is part of a wider push to expand its customer base beyond its current client roster.

Marcus Gater, Managing Director of Allegro, said: "North Somerset has always been an important part of Allegro and we're really proud to be continuing to invest and grow here.

"Expanding our operation in Clevedon and into Portishead is a big milestone for us. It gives us the capacity to welcome more eCommerce businesses into Allegro, while continuing to give our existing customers the space and support they need to grow too.

"We have ambitious plans for the next few years and having the right space, team and technology in place means we're ready for that next stage."

Growth focus

Expansion by fulfilment providers has become a notable feature of the eCommerce supply chain as merchants look for ways to handle rising sales volumes without building their own warehouse networks. Operators such as Allegro sit between online brands and parcel carriers, managing stock storage and the process of getting orders out to consumers.

For regional logistics businesses, adding warehouse space can also broaden the mix of customers they can serve. Larger brands typically need more room for inventory and systems that can cope with fluctuating order patterns, particularly during peak retail periods.

The additional capacity is intended to support both current customers and new accounts. E-commerce fulfilment remains the company's main focus and a key part of its growth plans.

The expansion also highlights North Somerset's role as a logistics base for businesses serving UK online retail. With sites in Clevedon and Portishead, Allegro now has a broader platform for warehousing and distribution operations for merchants shipping to customers across the country.

The two additional facilities bring a significant increase in floor space at a time when fulfilment providers are under pressure to combine storage, order accuracy and returns handling in a single service. For customers, the appeal of outsourcing those functions often lies in flexibility and the ability to scale operations as sales grow.
