Brightcove unveils AI translation, metadata & live video tools
Brightcove has released a set of new features aimed at expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities, improving live-streaming quality, and enhancing video engagement tools. The additions come as the company rolls out the next phase of its product roadmap, with hundreds of customers already trialling the latest functions.
Language localisation
The latest update includes a Universal Translator, which enables users to localise video content into more than 50 languages within the platform.
The tool allows transcripts generated by artificial intelligence to be refined before translation begins. It also provides various options for the dubbing voice, including fully synthetic and those modelled on the original speaker.
The company states this is assisting organisations in delivering multilingual content to international audiences quickly.
Efficient captioning
Enhancements to the Auto-Captions feature are also included in the update. The feature, which supports more than 250 customers, now provides more accurate and natural captions. A new Custom Dictionary allows organisations to set specific rules for how brand names, products, acronyms, and sensitive language appear in captions. This aims to reduce editing time and improve brand consistency across video output.
Metadata automation
Brightcove's new Metadata Optimizer tool is designed to streamline workflows by automatically generating and translating metadata across video catalogues. It does this using analysis of audio, text, and visuals within each video. With support for over 40 languages and options for customised tagging, the tool aims to improve search engine optimisation and overall discoverability. Customer input has led to the inclusion of visual analysis, which the company says has improved output accuracy.
Mobile experience
The introduction of the Vertical Videos template targets the growing trend of mobile video consumption. This new gallery allows organisations to host vertical, swipeable video feeds on their websites, replicating the user experience popularised by social platforms. Brightcove suggests this will help media, sports, and entertainment industries better engage younger and mobile-first viewers.
Live-streaming upgrades
Upgrades to the NextGen Live platform have also been announced.
These now support 4K ultra-high-definition streaming and low-latency delivery, with delays as low as eight seconds. The service has already supported live events with over 200,000 concurrent viewers. Live streaming, server-side ad insertion, and digital rights management are now unified within a single workflow. This is intended to improve both content security and monetisation options for customers broadcasting live events.
Product roadmap
Brightcove has indicated further features are in development. Planned additions include an AI-powered Content Multiplier, a native Recommendations Engine to provide real-time content suggestions, new interactivity options, and a refreshed user interface and user experience. These enhancements are expected to continue the company's focus on reach, engagement, and usability for content creators and broadcasters.
"These advancements are the result of direct feedback from our customers seeking more control, better automation, and improved video experiences for their audiences," said Scott Levine, Chief Product Officer, Brightcove.
