TeamViewer launches SheSportTech to draw more women into sports tech
TeamViewer, a global provider of remote connectivity and workplace digitalisation solutions, has unveiled its flagship initiative, SheSportTech, aimed at encouraging more women to consider careers in sports technology.
Currently, only 28% of the tech workforce in the UK is represented by women, with even fewer women participating in sports tech. TeamViewer's newest initiative is set to alter this dynamic by inspiring women to explore the myriad career possibilities in this swiftly expanding industry.
A collaborative endeavour involving Manchester United, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, and the leading organisation Women in Sports Tech (WiST), SheSportTech is scheduled to launch on 4th April and aims to offer women unprecedented access to unique experiences within the industry.
The SheSportTech Pathway will pair five successful applicants with female professionals already active in sports technology, providing support, guidance, and valuable insights based on their experiences. Each recipient will also be awarded a training grant of £1,500 to further bolster their development.
The initiative's creative campaign puts the spotlight on the diverse female talent driving Manchester United, featuring players Mary Earps, Ella Toone, Katie Zelem, Hinata Miyazawa, and Nikita Parris, along with women contributing to the team's success through their roles in insights, data analysis, security, CRM and talent management.
Faith Wheller, VP of Brand, Sports and Integrated Marketing Communications at TeamViewer, explains the company's perspective: "At TeamViewer, we believe that technology is made better by a diverse workforce. We know that representation matters in making women feel that sport tech is a field where they could thrive, which is why our campaign brings all these amazing women and their roles into the spotlight."
Applications are now open for women interested in the initiative. They will have the opportunity to benefit from one-to-one support from role models within Manchester United, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team and TeamViewer. This 'buddy scheme' will offer tailored events and experiences demonstrating how technology powers the three organisations' performance.
Marilou McFarlane, founder and CEO of WiST, expressed her enthusiasm regarding WiST's support for the initiative, stating, "We are honoured to join forces with TeamViewer on this exciting, educational and engaging initiative. This partnership aligns with our vision of creating a more diverse and inclusive sport tech ecosystem."
Candidates can apply to the SheSportTech initiative until Sunday 30th June. The selection panel will consider several factors, including reasons for transitioning into Sports Tech, potential opportunities the applicant wishes to pursue with the funds, and the quality of the written proposal.
