PPDS wins commendation at TUI Sustainability Impact Awards
PPDS has been honoured at the TUI Sustainability Impact Awards 2025, receiving one of the two special commendation awards.
The awards aim to recognise the accomplishments of TUI suppliers in technology, indirect purchasing, cruises, and airlines within the categories of 'People', 'Planet', and 'Progress', aligned with TUI's Sustainability Agenda. PPDS was distinguished as an IT finalist in the 'Progress' category from a field of about 100 entries evaluated by an internal jury led by TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel.
During the ceremony, PPDS was commended for its comprehensive approach to sustainability, which spans from the manufacturing stage of its products to packaging, transportation, and lengthened product lifecycles. These efforts are part of PPDS' global sustainability strategy, which features research and development focused on energy-efficient and repairable designs, waste reduction initiatives, and the Philips Wave remote display management system, which offers savings in resource consumption.
The judging panel particularly praised the Philips Signage 3650 EcoDesign display for its ultra-low energy consumption and environmental certifications, including a C European Energy Label and an EPEAT Climate+ Gold rating, which make it suitable for a variety of hospitality and retail environments.
Commenting on the awards, Sebastian Ebel stated, "Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy. The TUI Sustainability Impact Awards stand for our suppliers' ability to innovate – and their commitment to integrating sustainability into their processes and products."
A delegation from PPDS, consisting of Jeroen Verhaeghe, Global Business Director for Hospitality; Stefan van Sabben, Global Director of CSR and Sustainability; and Stuart Millward, UK Sales Director, attended the event. Millward participated in a panel discussion focusing on suppliers' sustainability initiatives.
During a special marketplace event, PPDS showcased its latest hospitality solutions, such as the Philips MediaSuite hotel TV range and a 32-inch Philips Tableaux ePaper display. These demonstrations offered TUI colleagues insights into Philips Professional Displays' capabilities and potential applications.
Stefan van Sabben, discussing the recognition, expressed, "We are delighted that our continued efforts have been recognised by TUI. Sustainability is a key pillar of PPDS' global business. Everything we do, from the manufacturing process, packaging and shipping, through to installation and beyond, these are all fundamentals." He added that acknowledgement from awards boosts the company's confidence in its sustainability direction.
Stuart Millward highlighted the impact of digital displays on sustainability, saying, "Digital signage, interactive displays, professional TVs, direct view LED. These all use electricity to show content. As the demand for digitalisation of business continues to grow, at PPDS we recognise the impact of this on our planet, and on the operating costs of our customers' businesses. So, we placed reducing the impacts of our business – including the energy consumption of our products new and existing – as a part of our core strategy."
Jeroen Verhaeghe reflected on the company's responsibility in the hospitality industry: "With bars, restaurants, cafes, entertainment areas, and of course the millions of guest rooms and cruise ship cabins in the hospitality industry, digital displays of all shapes, sizes and forms are now prevalent. As a global manufacturer, we feel duty bound to support our customers in achieving their own customer experience goals, while at the same time creating more sustainable business."
