Targa Telematics hires Adam Gooch to drive UK InsurTech
Targa Telematics has appointed Adam Gooch as Director of Insurance in the UK, as the connected insurance market seeks wider use of vehicle data and telematics tools.
Gooch will oversee the company's InsurTech offering in the UK and lead its expansion in the market. Targa Telematics noted that the UK sector continues to scale up and pointed to growing demand for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) data across car, van, and commercial vehicle markets.
Gooch has more than 20 years of experience across the insurance ecosystem. His background includes telematics providers, InsurTech suppliers, legal services and major insurers.
Targa Telematics said Gooch has launched products and built partnerships with clients. It said he has held senior director roles at UK telematics service providers and managed insurer relations, product development, operations and marketing.
Insurance focus
Targa Telematics sells connected mobility and telematics products that use vehicle and sensor data. The company said it uses data generated by OEM sensors. It said its tools produce driving-based risk profiles and accident reconstructions. It also said it offers claims-management tools and anti-fraud systems.
The company also positions its software and services for usage-based insurance policies. It linked that approach to mobility models such as car sharing and peer-to-peer services.
Targa Telematics said it serves clients in insurance and fleet services. It named Generali and Unipol in InsurTech. It also named Arval, Ayvens and Motability Operations UK for fleet services.
Market context
Insurance telematics has expanded from black-box devices and smartphone apps into broader data sources, including embedded connectivity and OEM-provided signals. UK insurers have explored these approaches for risk pricing, claims handling and fraud detection, while grappling with costs and data governance.
Targa Telematics framed the appointment around that shift in data availability. It also linked the role to demand for connected insurance products and services that use OEM data beyond private cars, across vans and commercial fleets.
Targa Telematics said it received a "Frost & Sullivan European Market Leadership" award in 2025 for digital solutions for fleet management and usage-based insurance across Europe. It said Frost & Sullivan described its portfolio as comprehensive and highlighted a modular platform that integrates telematics devices with software.
Chris Horbowyj is UK Commercial Director at Targa Telematics. He described the market pressures insurers and fleet operators face.
"Now is the moment for advanced telematics solutions to truly transform the UK insurance sector. As insurers and fleet operators face increasing pressure to control costs, protect customer data and enhance efficiency, the need for innovative, data-driven solutions has never been higher," said Chris Horbowyj, UK Commercial Director, Targa Telematics.
Horbowyj also commented on Gooch's appointment and the company's plans for the insurance segment.
"The appointment of a seasoned professional like Adam will significantly strengthen Targa Telematics' offering and capabilities in the insurance segment. His deep market knowledge, combined with a relentless commitment to results, will be instrumental in further elevating our strategy and expanding our footprint in the growing UK insurance market," said Horbowyj.
Gooch said the company's scale and technology position it for the next stage of the market. He also referenced the use of OEM data in connected insurance services.
"With its global presence, state-of-the-art technology and industry-leading expertise, Targa Telematics is ideally placed to lead the next chapter in the InsurTech sector and bring significant advantages from merging trends and learnings from Europe to the UK. Moreover, Targa Telematics is one of the few players that can really leverage OEM data to create best-in-class services, and I believe we can deliver major value not only to the connected insurance industry but also standard markets. I am thrilled to join the company at such a pivotal moment and look forward to building on its numerous strengths to help insurers unlock the full potential of OEM and telematics-enabled insurance", said Adam Gooch.
Targa Telematics said it plans to expand its UK presence in insurance telematics and usage-based insurance under Gooch's leadership.
